Last Day Of Summer
Haven Intermediate, 2015
The world speaks to me... It urges me to listen to its stories. So far I have counted 22 of those stories. One, in particular, has left a rather special impression on me. It is about a group of friends, who loved each other like nothing else in the world. Their time, however, was running short. I have not understood why, yet, but I shall figure it out. In order to make the most out of their final moments together, on the last day of summer, they all gather near the seashore and share their innermost feelings. I feel like there's more to the story, but I don't know yet. One day, maybe...
How dare you barge in and change my life like that
Just a couple of street kids
Blissful lives of uncertainty
Somehow, though, they like it better like that
They shouldn′t complain
The comfort of a friend's embrace
A last bastion of safety
In a world torn by the tides of a deity′s
Melancholic undertones
Future angels by a campfire
Enjoying what time they have left
What do they find inside their hearts
Beautiful sounds of a Second World
Journeys they have never been to
And a transparent moon
And the ticks of a clock that counts down
Like the steps of a ruthless giant
Who breaks the locks of their emotions
How dare you barge in and change my life like that
How dare you smile so radiantly
Behind the dancing summer flames
How dare you say "I'm afraid"
And break the courage I strive to preserve
How dare you, how dare you
How dare you tell me this today
Prancing sun, stop running away
Come join as we spill our minds on the sand
Don't leave so early
We have so much left to say
Eternal winds carry their laughing voices so far away
A statement by the lives they chose to bear
Turns to gloom
Hiding behind red skies that signal the end
Of the links that used to connect the worlds
Making them forget who they truly are
Besides, who will listen to the sound of their tears
And the noises that these rusty gates make
Locking behind dreams they could have chased
Nevertheless
As long as they have a reason
Somehow they will live
How dare you barge in and change my life like that
How dare you give me a purpose to speak the truth
How dare you lead me into these words
Which I hope I never get to regret
Friend and lover and sister and brother
Know that I am standing here with you
We are bound by the Last Day of Summer
A premonition of cold winter days
How dare you barge in and change my life like that
How dare you share your world with me
And open your heart to let me in
How dare you silently whisper "thank you"
As our time runs out and calls our names
Friend and lover and sister and brother
Know that I am standing here with you
We are bound by the Last Day of Summer
A premonition of cold winter days
(I journeyed corners of the world to find the key to my mind)
Which we will endure
To live again
Another summer
(The dawn veils reality and we′re drifting)
We′re holding hands
And fade away
The flowing waters of the ocean call out to me
The lips of burning fire lean in and kiss me
The stormy winds carry the curtain that will fall
The rumbling earth signals goodbye to the Last Day of Summer
